“I love to tell stories in my songs- stories about places, people, and the times. I love to research my subject matter- to dive head first into the wealth of knowledge we have access to in order to help me create these stories and share them with you in the form of a song. At the end of the day, I want to write songs that make people laugh, cry, dance, think, and remember. I want to write songs that connect us and bring us together through shared experiences because when it comes down to it, we’re all just human beings and we are more alike than we are different. I feel like that’s something to sing about.” – sALLY
A listener once described Patti Steel’s live performance as “soulful, fearless, and deeply human,” a sentiment that has followed her throughout her career. A versatile multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, Steel blends roots, jazz, blues, country, and soul into performances that feel both timeless and boldly personal. Her music is marked by emotional honesty, dynamic musicianship, and a commanding stage presence that invites audiences into each song.
Launching her solo career in 2020, Patti Steel quickly established herself as a compelling live performer, touring and performing extensively throughout the Midwest and beyond. Whether performing solo or with a band, she weaves rich textures through guitar, mandolin, and other stringed instruments, pairing them with a voice that carries equal parts grit, warmth, and vulnerability. Her songwriting often explores resilience, connection, and the quiet power of lived experience, delivered with an immediacy that resonates long after the final note.
Influenced by a wide spectrum of artists spanning Americana, blues, jazz, and soul traditions, Steel’s music resists easy categorization. Her sound balances roots-based authenticity with exploratory arrangements, allowing space for improvisation, groove, and emotional nuance. At the heart of her work is a deep respect for songcraft and storytelling, shaped by years of performing, collaborating, and teaching music.
